Coat Check Reverie

Verse

Ticket folded, corner soft

Number nine in fading ink

Sleeve slides off my shoulder, off

Coat hangs still, I start to sink

Pre-Chorus

I don't need the weight of it now

Heat comes up from the floor instead

Somewhere my coat sways on a bough

Of wire hooks, and I move ahead

Chorus

Number nine, on the wire

Number nine, on the wire

Number nine, on the wire

Number nine, on the wire

Verse

Room fills up with borrowed heat

Every collar left the same

Zipper teeth against the sheet

Metal tags all hum my name

Pre-Chorus

I don't need the weight of it now

Heat comes up from the floor instead

Somewhere my coat sways on a bough

Of wire hooks, and I move ahead

Chorus

Number nine, on the wire

Number nine, on the wire

Number nine, on the wire

Number nine, on the wire

Bridge

Hours fold like fabric does

Wool remembers where I stood

Someone else's jacket brushed

Against the sleeve of mine, we're good

Outside the window, glass gone grey

Coat still waiting, patient, plain

I'll find my number, walk away

Warm a while in the cold again

Chorus

Number nine, on the wire

Number nine, on the wire

Number nine, on the wire

Number nine, on the wire
